Travel Light And Pack Accordingly
Whether it's a business trip or a vacation, most people tend
to pack too many things. Although it makes good sense to keep in mind the
weather you are likely to experience and the kind of activities you will be participating
in and to pack accordingly, it also makes good sense to think about what not to
pack. Traveling light is key.
Do not pack regular size toiletries, if they are in your carry-on they will be in violation of the TSA 3-1-1 guidelines and will be confiscated. If they are packed in your check-in bag, they take up unnecessary space. Create a toiletries kit from trial sized drugstore sundries and buy small plastic jars and bottles to fill with your favorite products.
Every piece of clothing you pack ought to function for more than on type of outing. Pack a neutral pallet consisting of hand washable, quick drying, wrinkle resistant clothing. Take along accessories such as colorful scarves, shawls, ties and belts that can dress up daytime outfits. If you are visiting a cold climate and need warm clothing, pack ultra-light fleece instead of bulky wools and wear your coat on the plane.
Shoes take up a lot of space, believe it or not; generally two pairs will be all you need. Make sure they are practical and versatile. Tennis shoes or boots, depending on the weather, will generally take care of any sight seeing, shopping or other daytime activities. Think about the hotels and resorts where you have made reservations; they likely provide many extras. It may not be necessary to pack a hair dryer, beach towels, golf clubs or other recreational items. Leave valuable jewelry, clothing and accessories at home. If you must bring your computer, iPad, smart phone and other expensive electronic devices, transport them in your carry-on.
